Safespill Joins National Air Transportation Association as Partner+ Participant

Safespill, the manufacturer of Ignitable Liquid Drainage Floor Assembly (ILDFA), is proud to announce its partnership with the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) as a Partner+ participant. This collaboration underscores Safespill’s commitment to advancing safety and sustainability standards within the aviation sector, particularly in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hangars. By partnering with NATA, Safespill aims to further its mission to transition the world to environmentally safe fire protection.

Foam fire suppression systems have been used in MRO hangars for many decades, but their environmental impact and maintenance costs are under increasing scrutiny. Foam systems have considerable install and maintenance costs, plus a propensity to inadvertently activate without a fire in the hangar. ILDFA is an environmentally safe, foam free solution that is not only National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 409 compliant, but also the preferred hangar protection system by insurance carriers like FM Global. This hollow flooring system is made from marine-grade aluminum designed to take the weight of any military, commercial, or private aircraft. In the event of a fuel spill, liquid drains into the floor and relies on gravity to drain into a trench where it can be routed to an Oil Water Separator or containment tank. Liquid sensors in the floor activate a flushing system that help remove residual fuel and clean out the ILDFA.

Founded in 1940, the National Air Transportation Association represents the interests of aviation businesses through advocacy, education, and collaboration. NATA’s membership encompasses a broad spectrum of aviation service companies, including FBOs, MROs, and charter operators, making it an influential voice in shaping the future of the industry. As a Partner+ participant, Safespill joins a network of organizations dedicated to fostering innovation, safety, and operational excellence in aviation.

“Joining NATA as a Partner+ participant is a significant milestone for Safespill. Our shared commitment to safety and sustainability aligns perfectly with NATA’s mission to advance the aviation industry. We look forward to collaborating with NATA members to bring our innovative ILDFA solutions to more facilities, helping the industry achieve its safety and environmental goals,” said Sam Bowen, Business Development Director at Safespill.
