Navy & Marine Corp Hangars Include ILDFA as an Option in Transition Away from AFFF
In May 2022, the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) issued Interim Technical Guidance (ITG) to include Ignitable Liquid Floor Drainage Assembly (ILDFA) as an option for existing for Navy and Marine Corps hangars with aqueous film forming foam systems (AFFF).
The ITG document provides guidance to facilities as they prepare to phase out AFFF, which will be prohibited for purchase after 1 OCT 2023 and prohibited for use after 1 OCT 2024.
The ITG states that existing hangars can select the option of: “installing an Ignitable Liquid Floor Drainage Assembly (ILDFA) according to NFPA 409 and removing the AFFF systems.”
Safespill developed the Ignitable Liquid Floor Drainage Assembly (ILDFA) and is actively working with U.S. Military. Safespill floors have been installed in and awarded for both U.S. Navy and Air Force hangars.
